About
Hi, I’m James (or jamcre)
I’m a Security+ certified Computer Scientist with a focus on cybersecurity, endpoint hardening, and secure infrastructure. I built this site as a place to document my homelab, share what I’m learning, and give people a look into how I approach security, systems, and continuous improvement.
My path into cybersecurity has been hands‑on from the start. Repurposing old hardware, building out segmented networks, deploying SIEM tooling, and experimenting with real attack/defense workflows. I enjoy understanding how systems behave, how they break, and how to secure them.
What I Work On
My projects span across enterprise security, homelab, and embedded systems:
- Hardening Windows endpoints with enterprise tooling like CrowdStrike, Darktrace, and Halcyon
- Designing segmented network architectures using OpenWRT, VLANs, and Proxmox
- Deploying Wazuh SIEM and analyzing real‑time telemetry across multi‑OS environments
- Running cyber ranges, performing enumeration, and validating exploitation techniques
- Building secure IoT pipelines with ESP32, TLS‑MQTT, and custom GUIs
Whether it’s a hypervisor cluster, a Docker stack, or an embedded sensor network, I like building systems that are secure, observable, and resilient.
Why I Built This Homelab
This lab is my personal R&D environment, a place where I can:
- Document my configurations, experiments, and lessons learned
- Demonstrate practical security skills
- Share knowledge with anyone interested in cybersecurity or homelab design
- Continuously deploy new services and refine my infrastructure
It’s a living project that grows as I learn.
Career Direction
I’m pursuing roles in:
- SOC / Cyber Analysis
- Security Engineering
- Penetration Testing
- Infrastructure Security
My long‑term goal is to build a strong cybersecurity career, keep leveling up technically, and create opportunities that match the ambition I bring to this field.
